Vaccination Program for Horses

Every operation may require different herd health programs.  Below is a general outline.  If you have any questions concerning the vaccination of your horses, please call Dr. Bynum.
 
For Foals 4-6 months of age
EWT/Rhino Flu  (repeat in 3-4 weeks)
West Nile    (repeat in 3-6 weeks)
Strangles  (repeat in 3-4 weeks)
Rabies  (Initial 1 dose)

Yearlings

EWT/Rhino Flu  (initial series or annual booster)
West Nile  (initial series or annual booster in Spring)
Strangles  (Initial series or annual booster)
Rabies (annual booster)

Brood Mares
EWT/Rhino Flu (When open)
Pneumabort-K+1b  (when bred at 3,5,7 and 9 months gestation)
West Nile  (annual booster in the Spring)
Rabies (annual booster in the Spring)
Tetnus Toxoid (given no more than 30 days prior to foaling)
Tetnus Antitoxin (given after foaling to mare and colt)

Pleasure and Performance Horses
EWT/Rhino Flu (initial series or annual booster)
Rhino Flu (booster in the Fall when EWT/Rhino Flu is given in the Spring)
West Nile (initial series or annual booster in the Spring)
Rabies (annual booster in the Spring)
Strangles (initial series or annual booster)

***Strangles is necessary only if being through numerous states continuously.

***Coggins test are required at some in- state events and are always required to cross state lines.
